WELCOME TO MAIMONIDES

Virtual Interview Day

We look forward to meeting you! Your interview information will be sent to you by email and we encourage you to arrive promptly on Zoom for your interview day.

A Brief Guide to Your Virtual Interview

What should I do to prepare for my interview? Please watch our awesome program videos and peruse our webpage and social media! This will help you get to know us better. You can find the links to the videos on our website under the tab “Zoom series.” You can also find us on Instagram @maimoem and Twitter @Maimonides_EM.

Where should I do this interview? Choose a neutral background that is not in front of a window or bright light. Make sure to do it in a place with a stable internet connection. Turn off other devices and streaming so that you have as much bandwidth as possible. Ensure that the environment is quiet and that you have as much privacy as possible. We get it, we’re all at home with family, pets, and noisy roommates. It won’t be perfect and that’s okay.

What should I wear? You do NOT need to wear a suit. We probably won’t be. We suggest wearing something comfortable, but still professional, such as a collared shirt or a blouse. You’re shooting for a “professional working from home” look, which is what we’re basically going for too.

What should I bring? Bring? But I’m not going anywhere! No, but you may get thirsty or tired throughout the day. Bring a glass of water, a coffee, kombucha or whatever keeps you comfortable. Consider headphones with a microphone if you have them. It dramatically improves the sound quality of the interview. I always recommending trying out all equipment for a test drive before the day of.

What will I be asked? Expect to be asked about your pathway to medical school and emergency medicine and any formative life experiences that you feel are important to share. Pets, hobbies, and favorite TV shows are also all fair game.

Dr. Cueva always ask the same question: Tell me something about yourself that you did not include in your ERAS application.

One of your interviewers will also be a dedicated "D&I interviewer" and will ask (1) Residency can be a challenging time. Please tell me about a challenge that you encountered in your journey to where you are now, and how you dealt with or overcame that challenge. Please feel free to include as much or as little personal details as you’d like. We are interested in how you dealt with the challenge.
(2)As you may know, we take care of an extremely diverse patient population with patients from all backgrounds. We are curious to learn more about your interactions with diversity and how diversity may have impacted your own life. You may define diversity however you’d like.

We think it's only fair to give you the questions in advance!

What should I do after my interview? We are grateful that you chose to spend time getting to know us and our residency program. We also think that you are probably grateful to have had the opportunity to interview with us as well. There! We've all felt and expressed our mutual gratitude. We DO NOT expect a formal thank you note after the interview day, and please do not send one. We'll be much happier knowing that you're off enjoying the afternoon instead of slaving over your email.

The below information may be helpful someday when interviews return to in-person.

Location & Travel Information

One upside of virtual interviews is you don’t have to worry about parking…

Parking

There is a parking lot located on Tenth Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets. Parking vouchers will be provided. Please remember to ask for it when you arrive at our office.

It’s Brooklyn. Parking can be a headache. We recommend public transportation if possible. Then you don’t have to worry about it on Interview day.

Our residents will be hosting optional social events in Brooklyn in January.  These events are strictly optional, and are intended to give our interviewing applicants an opportunity to meet our current residents. We know that scheduling is difficult during interview seasons, and we invite you to choose any of the dates available if and when you may be in the area. We will send information about these events along with your interview invitation.
