Maimonides Residency Benefits

Highly Competitive Salary & Comprehensive Benefits Package 

Maimonides Medical Center residents are members of the Committee on Interns and Residents (CIR), a union representing house staff officers in the United States. Salary and benefits are discussed and arranged after a process of review and discussion in conjunction with CIR representatives. As a result, Maimonides offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package.

Benefits and Insurance:

Health insurance provided through Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield POS plan.
Prescription drug benefits through Express Scripts (ESI) with $5 – 30 in-network copayments.
Dental benefits through Guardian to include twice yearly routine dental care.
Vision benefits through Davis Vision to covers annual eye exams and lenses, plus discounts on frames or contact lenses.
Group life, short and long term disability insurance fully paid by the hospital through Guardian.
Free legal services covering immigration, landlord/tenant disputes, simple family cases, and more.
Mental health supplement to provide an additional $5000 per year to cover out-of-pocket costs related to outpatient mental health.
Optional flexible spending plan to use pre-taxed income toward health-related expenses.

Educational Reimbursements:

Residents receive $1250 per academic year to use towards the cost of a licensing exams (Step 3, Comlex Level 3), board review, textbooks, journals, electronic equivalents, or other work related costs. Up to $250 may be allocated to cover work-related cell phone expenses.

Memberships to Rosh Review, ACEP, SAEM, and EMRA are provided by the emergency medicine department, providing access to their services including question banks, EMRAP and more.

Transportation:

Discounted employee parking with 12 free parking pass vouchers per month, then pay $5 per garage use.

Uber Health late night travel benefit to cover transportation from the hospital to the resident’s residence between the hours of 10pm and 5am.

Optional commuter benefit plan to use pre-tax income on daily commuting expenses (public transit tickets or workplace parking fees).

Work hours and time off:

All ED blocks are limited to 60 working hours per week, not including conference and other educational activities. Off service rotations are limited to 80 working hours per week.

All residents receive 4 weeks of paid vacation per year.

Paid time off for up to 12 sick days, 5 bereavement days, 3 marriage leave days, and 1 personal day. Additional paid and unpaid maternity, paternity, and family leave is available.

If working more than 6 hours on one of 12 hospital holidays, residents are eligible to receive compensation to equal to that of an additional day’s pay.

On Shift:

Each EM resident is given three free pairs of monogrammed scrubs at the beginning of their PGY-1 year. Additional free scrubs can be found in scrub machines throughout the hospital.

All residents receive a meal card with $1100 per academic year to be used at the Maimonides Cafeteria or other local businesses (including bodegas, coffee shops, bakeries, and other delis near the hospital).

More Information:

Each resident will pay ~1.6% of their base salary to the CIR/SEIU bargaining unit, which will cover the cost of union membership and individual benefits. There is no additional monthly fee for basic individual insurance benefits.
